Confirmation

What is confirmation?

At Confirmation we are sealed with the Holy Spirit, who strengthens and guides our Christian faith. “From this fact, Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace: - it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!"; it unites us more firmly to Christ; it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us; it renders our bond with the Church more perfect; it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1303

The program

The Sacrament of Confirmation at St Patrick's Sutherland is a parish based co-ordinated program. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process, as parents are the first educators of children in their faith.

The Parish Sacramental team and parish community, as well as St Patrick's Primary school staff and Catechists, support families during the program. In this partnership, the spiritual development of a child can be nurtured and grown. We hope that families enjoy the family-centred Sacramental program and experience a warm sense of belonging. If you have any enquiries regarding Confirmation, please contact Ann Woodhouse.

*Eligibility - Candidates must be baptised Catholic, have received First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion and be in Year 6 or above.
