Holy Communion

What is Holy Communion?

In the Eucharist, Jesus gives himself completely to us. Jesus becomes the spiritual food we need for life's journey. “The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist. …

"At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.'"

A Partnership

The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is a parish based program at St Patrick's Sutherland. This approach acknowledges the important role of parents and families in the whole preparation process, as parents are the first educators of children in their faith. The Parish Sacramental Team and parish community, as well as St Patrick's Primary school staff and Catechists support families during the program.

In this partnership, the spiritual development of a child can be nourished and grown. We hope that families enjoy the family-centred sacramental program and experience a warm sense of belonging. If you have any enquiries regarding First Holy Communion, please contact the parish office. We look forwarding to journeying with families during this special time in their lives.

With gratitude for your faith and support.
