FAQs About Giving
-
This is a common misconception. You will often see stories in the secular news stating how rich the Church is, but what they don't tell you is that what they report as money owned by the Church includes all of the price of land that the Church's are built on around the world. These Church's all require maintenance and upkeep cost as well as water and electricity bills. Bills that the individual Church must pay by its own donations or be shut down and ultimately sold, which is happening more and more in our times.

The two collections have different destinations.
The First Collection at Mass is for the upkeep of the priests. The monies collected go to a central fund in the Archdiocese of Sydney to ensure equity for all priests working in the diocese and for retired priests of the diocese. The fund provides priests a stipend each fortnight, a place to live, and their household expenses.
The Second Collection is for the Parish. It consists of planned giving by direct debit or by weekly envelopes and by cash given at the time of the collection. These donations provide for the costs of the administration of the parish, for support of ministries exercised for the parish and for the maintenance of the parish buildings, including the costs of electricity and insurance. Money from this collection will contribute to the urgently needed repair of our roof.
-
Donations to the Priest Retirement Fund, Caritas, Catholic Mission and the CWF Fund are tax deductible (100%). Planned giving is 30% deductible (if requested). However, all other parish donations are not tax deductible.
-
All money collected from the Tap&Go in the Church goes directly to the second collection fund which directly benefits our parish and will be used towards restoration of the roof.
